Award in Emergency First Aid at Work Level 2*
The aim of this qualification is to allow learners to develop the first aid skills which are required to take initial action in dealing with health emergencies that might occur in the workplace.
Certificate in the Prevention and Control of Infection Level 2*
This qualification aims to provide the learner with the knowledge and skills required to prevent and control the transmission of infection and contamination in a care environment. It will enable health and social care staff such as auxilliaries, care workers and assistants to reduce the risk of contamination in their work setting (including those who work with individuals in their own home). It will build up their self awareness of their role at work in infection control and prevention.
Certificate in Dementia Care Level 2*
The purpose of this award is to gain an understanding of the different types of dementia, early symptoms and current treatments. Learners will develop a clear vision about their role in caring for people with dementia and have an awareness of the different support agencies that are available.
This qualification is designed for individuals who are working, or plan to work in a health or care environment; such as a hospital, EMI unit, residential or respite care home, day care centres and service users’ own home. Volunteers, such as family members, who care for people with dementia would also benefit from this programme.
Certificate in Managing and Safe Handling of Medicines Level 2*
This qualification is designed for worked-based learners who are responsible for the care of adults who need support and assistance in the administration of their medication. It will:
- Develop learner’s understanding of what medicines are and the categories and types of medicines most commonly used in their work place;
- Raise the learner’s awareness of the benefits and key risks associated with medicines;
- Provide essential knowledge and understanding of the legislation, regulations and organisational policies relevant to the handling and administering of medicines in a care setting;
- Develop learner’s understanding of the range of support needs that individuals may require when administering medicines;
- Stress the importance of the learner working within their own role, level of competence and workplace policies when handling and administering medicines;
- Provide the learner with the opportunity to practice correct record keeping relating to the receiving, storing, disposing and administering of medicines;
- Provide the opportunity for the learner to observe good practice relating to the managing and handling of medicines;
- Equip the learner with practical skills when managing and handling medicines under the guidance and supervision of a suitably qualified person.
Certificate in Moving and Handling Level 2*
The purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding to use safe moving and handling techniques for objects and/or individuals. The objective is to minimise the risk of injury to learners involved in handling and moving objects and/or individuals. The qualification aims to:
- Provide learners with knowledge of the legal requirements surrounding the handling of objects and/or individuals;
- Enable learners to understand how the spine works and to recognise principles for maintaining back health;
- Develop the learner\'s ability to practise the principles of safe moving and handling of objects and/or individuals;
- Familiarise learners with unsafe handling methods;
- Develop an awareness of mechanical handling aids.
